This scheme offers financial assistance to farmers for various agricultural inputs, allied activities, and their domestic needs. It aims to ensure the well-being of farmers and promote healthy crop yields.

Objectives of PM Kisan Samman Yojana:

The agricultural sector is a crucial component of the Indian economy, and farmers constitute a significant part of society. However, economic disparities between rural and urban areas have left a substantial portion of the population struggling for financial prosperity. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana was launched by the Government of India in 2018 to address these disparities.

The primary objectives of this scheme are:

  • To support approximately 125 million small and marginal Indian farmers.
  • To alleviate the economic challenges faced by the farming community and bridge the urban-rural economic gap.

Features of PM Kisan Samman Yojana Nidhi:

  • Funding: The scheme is fully funded by the Government of India. Initially, it allocated ₹75,000 crores per year for this initiative. In a recent disbursement, ₹17,000 crores were transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts on August 9, 2020, using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
  • Income Support: The core feature of this scheme is the minimum income support provided to farmers. Eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually, distributed in three equal installments every four months. The beneficiaries have flexibility in how they use this amount, as the guidelines do not impose specific usage restrictions.
  • Identification Responsibility: While the central government funds the scheme, the identification of beneficiaries is the responsibility of the State and Union Territory governments. According to the scheme’s definition, a farmer family includes a husband, wife, and minor children.
